The sale of the nine houses and land of the Miss Ruth Wonser estate started Thursday morning at 10:15 and by noon the four houses and the lots on West Main Street, also lots on Second Street had been sold. This land was part of 40 acres purchased from the government when her parents located here in 1848.
The 25 acres of land which is on the road to the Rock River bridge was purchased by Randolph Besse of Erie for $205 per acre. This is near his farm.
The residence of Miss Wonser, who passes away last August at the age of 92, was sold to R.R> Christoffel who came to Erie this spring from Chicago. The price paid was $4,712.50. The house is now occupied by the George H. Creighton family. Mr. and Mrs. Christoffel have been staying in the home of her uncle, M.C. Waite.
Leland McNeill purchased the house that he and his family have tenanted for several years. The price was $2,912.50. This includes the land between the houses bought by Mr. Christoffel and Mr. McNeill which was evenly divided between them.
The lots back of these two homes on Second and Water streets, was purchased by Clarence and Alfred Butzer for $610. These lots are approximately 180x175 feet.
George Creighton purchased the house now occupied by the George Murphy family for $2,300, and will use it as a residence. The house adjoining it which has been vacant since the Wayne Dersham family moved to Rock Falls, was bought for $1,575 by Ralph Mose of near Port Byron.
The house on East Main Street formerly known as the Miss Elizabeth Fenton house was purchased by Dick J. Bush of neat Erie for $4,350. The present tenants, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Border and family will remain, as Mr. Bush, who is on a farm made the purchase as an investment.
The house vacated Thursday by Clarence Butzer was purchased by Joe A. Bush of Erie, who expects to occupy his new purchase. The price paid was $5,420.
Art Jacobs purchased the house in the south part of town now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. C.N. Williams for $2,225. Mr. Jacobs and family intend to move to their new purchase.
J. Garnett White who resides in the house on the Minnie Carr farm near Erie, purchased teh house occupied by Mrs. Ethelyn Stoudt for $2,050, and the one tenanted by the Herschel Thornton family for $1,460. The White family expect to occupy the former house in the fall.
The lots at the rear of the house purchased by Art Jacobs were purchased by Charles Conmoyer for $200.
The sale was held by the master in chancery, Mason Bull of Morrison. E.L. Scott of Erie is the attorney for the estate. The auctioneers were Clyde Burns of Erie and Ed Sand of Hillsdale. There was a large crowd in attendance.
