Funeral Rites Tuesday

For John E. Florence

Funeral services for John E. Florence, who passed away suddenly early Sunday morning at his home in Erie were held Tuesday afternoon in the Erie Church of Christ, following brief services at the Schilling funeral home.

The pastor, the Rev. Clarence M. Potter, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Melvin Fiscus of Camp Point, a former pastor of the church.

Two selections, “Beyond the Sunset” and “Sunrise” were sung by the Rev. Mr. Fiscus, with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Irl Shrader.

Casket attendants were Irl Shrader, Earl Border, Clair Dobson, Arthur Hawk, Clyde O. Burns, all of Erie, and Ralph James of Prophetstown.

The many beautiful floral tributes were in charge of Mrs. Ralph James of Prophetstown, Mrs. Will Brown, Mrs. Willard Avery, Mrs. Ellsworth Burch and Mrs. Carl Cocking. The business houses of the town were closed during the service.

Among the very large number of relatives and friends from out of town attending the services were Mrs. Frank Reed of San Antonio, Tex., Mr. And Mrs. Harry Nylen of Grand Rapids, Mich., Miss Mabel Fenton of Maywood; Mrs. Melvin Fiscus of Camp Point; Mr. And Mrs. Frank Scott of Lanark, and others from Lyndon, Prophetstown, Tampico, Morrison, Port Byron, Hillsdale, Albany, Yorktown, Geneseo, Fenton and the surrounding community.
