Miss Eliza James Will Reach 87th Milestone

On Life’s Road Feb. 12

Tuesday, Feb. 12, will mark the 87th birthday of Miss Eliza James, who has lived in Erie or within a radius of two miles of Erie all of the 87 years. Miss James, the eldest of the nine children of George and Mary Milton James, was born in Fenton township Feb. 12, 1859.

Miss James remained with her parents and after her father retired from farming, they built a home on another part of the farm about a mile and a half from Erie.

She remained in the home until the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. William James in 1918 when she came to Erie to keep house for her brother and resided with him until his death in November 1943.

A brother Fred James now resides in the home with her, and in recent years, a sister, Mrs. Hattie Pratt of near Erie, stays with her during the winter. In addition to these Miss James has two brothers, Thomas, who owns and resides on the old home farm, and John of Erie.

Miss James belongs to the Methodist Willing Workers class, and although her health does not permit her to be a regular attendant at their social meetings, she goes whenever possible and greatly enjoys the meetings.

She has long been a member of the Erie Woman’s Club and can always be depended upon to do her part, even though she is not able to attend too often.
